Mount Olive Prison Release Paths

Mount Olive is a WVDCR state prison, even though its formal name includes “and Jail.” WVDCR describes it as West Virginia's only maximum-security correctional facility. Slayton Work Camp is a minimum-security unit on the same grounds, outside the secure perimeter and administered by Mount Olive. Placement at either unit belongs to the state-prison custody system. It does not show that the person's criminal case came from Fayette County.

A person may leave Mount Olive through discretionary parole, conditional post-release supervision, minimum-discharge or final release, or transfer to another WVDCR placement. Movement from the secure complex to Slayton, from Slayton back to a secure unit, or to another prison is not community release. Parole is a physical exit subject to conditions and field supervision. Final discharge is a separate endpoint that may occur later.

Confirm a Mount Olive Release

Open the WVDCR Offender Searches hub and choose the prison search. The jail search is for regional-jail custody such as Southern Regional Jail, not a Mount Olive sentence. Search by the name or offender identifier options displayed in the live interface. Confirm the location and identity before using any date or status attached to the record.

1. Choose the WVDCR prison channel and search the known name or OID.
2. Copy each status and date label exactly as displayed rather than renaming a projected date as release.
3. Check West Virginia VINE for the specific custody event.
4. When parole applies, separate hearing or Board action from the actual WVDCR exit.
5. Request the releasable commitment/release information and effective time sheet for documentary confirmation.

The dynamic prison application was not accessible during the project research, so no promise can be made that a discharged person stays in public results or that every result displays a photo, supervising office, or release date. A missing name could reflect publication rules, a spelling issue, transfer, or a technical failure. It cannot carry the whole conclusion.

Mount Olive Release Records Contact

WVDCR Policy 457.02 places prison release coordination with the prison facility records office. That makes the facility or WVDCR records channel the correct route for a Mount Olive final-discharge record. It is more precise than calling the Fayette Sheriff, which does not operate the prison or keep its commitment and release file.

The official Mount Olive and Slayton page supplies the address, numbers, security descriptions, capacity, and history. It does not publish a gate-release hour, release transportation schedule, recent-release feed, or promise that a photograph remains online after discharge.

Mount Olive Custody and Capacity

Mount Olive opened in 1995. The official WVDCR page lists capacity for 1,030 male offenders and describes the complex as maximum security. Slayton Work Camp opened in July 2007 and has 48 minimum-security beds. Its location outside the secure perimeter does not turn a transfer to Slayton into discharge. Both placements remain under Mount Olive administration and WVDCR custody.

Security level and capacity help identify the correct institution, not the release result for one person. State prisoners can come from any West Virginia county. A Fayette address in the facility record says where the prison stands. It does not establish the county of conviction or the destination after release.

Note: Ask whether a reported move changed the custodian or merely changed the assigned unit before describing anyone as released.

Mount Olive Discharge Record Request

A focused request should name Mount Olive or Slayton, identify the person and approximate custody period, and provide an OID or court number if known. Seek the releasable commitment/release information, the final recorded release type and date, and the effective time sheet. If a transfer destination is needed, ask for that field only if publicly releasable and invite redaction of all exempt content.

WVDCR Policy 142.00 supports commitment and release information, parole-eligibility dates, sentence-execution data, projected minimum discharge dates, good-time information, and street-time information within the underlying offender record. Policies 151.06 and 151.07 describe computer calculation and the time sheet entered into OIS. These policies establish that agency records exist, but they do not make every field available on the public search.

West Virginia FOIA requires a request that reasonably describes the records. Actual reproduction costs may be charged, while the statute cited in the research bars search, retrieval, and man-hour fees. Keep the agency response and any written denial. Protected personal, medical, security, juvenile, sealed, or expunged material may be withheld or redacted.

Fayette County Mount Olive Geography

Fayette County's facility map is easy to reverse. Mount Olive is physically inside Fayette, but it is a prison serving the state. Southern Regional Jail is physically in Raleigh County, yet it serves many Fayette local detainees. The search channel must follow custody type rather than the facility's mailing county.

A person arrested on a Fayette charge will ordinarily enter the regional-jail system and may appear at Southern Regional Jail. A sentenced prisoner at Mount Olive uses the prison channel regardless of where the case began. The same logic applies after an exit. A local bond release is checked against the Fayette case and regional-jail episode. A Mount Olive parole or discharge is checked through WVDCR prison records and the Parole Board where needed.

Mount Olive Release and ICE Custody

An ICE detainer can change the destination after a WVDCR exit. ICE describes a detainer as a request for notice and continued custody for up to 48 hours so immigration officials can assume custody. If that happens, the WVDCR release event is not a return to the community. It is followed by custody under a different authority.

Confirm the Mount Olive release type first. Then search the ICE Online Detainee Locator System using the required identity information. ODLS includes current detainees and persons released from ICE custody during a limited 60-day period. Data may lag, and not everyone appears. A search miss cannot prove release, removal, or freedom from all custody.

When the locator fails, the ICE Detention Reporting and Information Line is 1-888-351-4024, available Monday through Friday except holidays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern. Keep the WVDCR exit and any immigration event separate in the final description.

Mount Olive Parole Release Proof

The West Virginia Parole Board decides discretionary parole. Hearing eligibility or appearance on a calendar does not equal approval. A grant may depend on conditions or an approved plan, and the prison release still needs a WVDCR event. For a sound timeline, identify the Board action, the physical Mount Olive release, the supervising office, and any later discharge as separate points.

That office can provide supervision navigation where applicable. It should not be treated as a public directory of all released people. There is no verified comprehensive public list of West Virginia parolees.
